Italy – Aviation Strike June 24 – Nationwide

21. kesäkuuta 2019

Unionized aviation sector workers plan to stage a 24-hour nationwide strike in Italy, June 24. Airline staff at Alitalia (AZ) and Blue Panorama (BV), as well as airport maintenance, baggage handling, and ancillary support staff, plan to walk out at 0001 June 24.

Air traffic controllers employed by the state-owned ENAV S.p.A. will not participate in the nationwide walkout but are planning a localized strike from 1300-1700 at Turin’s Cuneo International Airport (CUF).

Several major unions are not participating in the strike, which will mitigate the potential impact. Nevertheless, some flight disruption, including delays and cancellations, is possible on domestic and international routes. The strike is unlikely to be crippling as Italian law requires transportation providers to ensure a minimum level of service. Striking workers may stage pickets or other protests, prompting localized vehicular traffic disruption near airports. Residual flight disruptions are possible after the strike ends as airlines work to clear any passenger backlog.

Contact airlines to confirm flight status, if booked to fly to, from, or connect through Italian airports June 24. Allow extra time for check-in and baggage clearance during the strike. Do not check out of accommodation until onward travel is confirmed.

If your travel plans are affected by the above or you require further information please contact your HRG Office.
